We have been using the Learning Lenses software for over a year now and are really impressed with the way it has improved the way lesson observations and feedback run in three distinct ways.
Firstly it speeds up the whole process. The app means that good quality written feedback including photographic evidence can be available minutes after an observation. By using the website during verbal feedback ways forward can quickly be agreed, written up and recorded.
Secondly the way in which the learning lenses approach works leads to high quality professional conversation about strengths and limitations that leads to developmental discussion rather than judgemental discussion. Staff are fully involved in finding their own solutions to lessening limitations to progress in lessons and these solutions can quickly be agreed and action to improve quickly acted upon.
The final improvement that has come about by using the learning lenses approach has been the ease with which we have been able to promote a consistency of language around the improvement of lesson delivery across the whole school. The seven lenses form a memorable framework through which staff think about delivering high quality lessons. The website then allows me to see how well we are doing in each lens which informs whole school improvement planning.
